Since it’s wedding season, I figured I’d post something wedding-related.
On December 10, 2011, my sister married the love of her life. It was surreal to see my younger sister getting married. It emphasized how much older I am from her. Nevertheless, I was extremely happy for them. That day, they both looked over the moon, so happy and so in love. They had a simple and elegant wedding; it was beautiful. It reflected who they are as a couple and I think that’s the most important thing in a wedding. Due to a limited budget, my sister and her then fiance` had asked me if I could do some engagement photos. How could I say no?
We didn’t have time to scout different locations or talk much about themes or outfit changes. The perfect time was when we were having a BBQ at my aunt’s house in the suburbs. Every summer, you’ll see so many beautiful flowers in her front and backyard. So, I picked one part of my aunt’s house that’s pretty neutral for a background but also had some flowers to add some color. For me, a house is the ultimate symbol of a family. It was the perfect backdrop.
Here are some of my favorite ones from our quick shoot:
She requested a Prince-William-&-Kate-Middleton-esque type of picture, like this. Although not exactly the same, my sister just opted for a similar one.
This is them as husband and wife, aka The Alexanders.
For their actual wedding, I suggested somebody who was an actual professional photographer and I told my sister I had somebody in mind who can do it, or hopefully can do it. My dear friend Tamara is an amazing Chicago night-life photographer. I have been a big fan of her work ever since our days newspaper editing in college. I decided to contact her to see if she could shoot my sisters wedding. Her job is very demanding and requires long days and nights and I was so happy she said yes. She took so many beautiful photos! Everyone loved them! Please check out her work/portfolio here.
